Listen to myself and Judi Scott discuss fertility, IVF and emotional prenatal support on the Be on Purpose podcast.
I join Judi Scott – who gives a detailed personal account of her own IVF journey – to discuss some of the emotional aspects of prenatal and birth care.
Catch me at 30 minutes in to find out more about how a doula can help with emotional support when planning for your birth, as well as with birthing itself. I explain the difference between a midwife and a doula, as well as the different types of emotional and practical support a doula can offer through pregnancy, birth and the post-birth period.
I also talk about how pregnancy and yoga works together with antenatal classes to help women with breathing and relaxation techniques and touch on my training with the NCT (National Childbirth Trust), and hopefully returning to in-person teaching by the end of 2021.
You can also hear about how I first got interested in becoming a doula by helping out with a friend’s homebirth, and listen to us discussing levels of medical birth intervention across the USA and the UK.
Content warning: Please be mindful that we do talk about maternal mortality and the psychological trauma of infertility so some of this may be upsetting for some listeners personally impacted by these issues.
